Hina - goddess of the moon
Hina close-up

This cloth and paper clay doll depicts an acrobat trained at Cirque du Soleil.

Portraying the goddess of the heavens, Hina (from Maui folklore), the acrobat's body rests momentarily in the circle of the "full moon”.

High in the air, she reaches for the smaller ring above, which she will use to continue her act.

The light of the moon shines on the choppy “sea” created on the stage floor below.

"Hina" has a paper clay head hands and feet on a wire and cloth body. She wears a one-piece lycra body suit and has has applied mohair for her hair. A gold wire headdress accents her painted face.

This one-of-a-kind creation received a first place award at the WOW!2003 competition sponsored by the Academy of American Doll Artists and is available for $295

Hina's wire stand is 20" tall on a 9" wooden base.  The 18" doll swings freely in her circular apparatus.
